Rihanna - News And Biography
The national media seems anxious quick to turn Rihanna into the latest headline joke (or even worse the latest victimized women). However, for all the controversy she and her ex-boyfriend have started up, it’s hard not to remember Rihanna under better terms—for what she has accomplished culturally and artistically. Rihanna has just turned legal age (born in 1988) and is already a singer, model and beauty queen. She was originally born in Saint Michael, Barbados but came to the United States to pursue a singing career at the age of 16. She has worked with Def Jam Recordings and Jay-Z.
Her 2005 debut album was entitled Music of the Sun and hit the Billboard 200 immediately. Subsequent albums included A Girl Like Me and Good Girl Gone Bad. Some of her most popular singles include SOS, Umbrella, Disturbia and Don’t Stop the Music. At the tender age of 21, she has already been nominated for nine Grammy Awards (winning one) and has sold over 12 million albums all over the world. Furthermore, she also serves as one of Barbados' cultural ambassadors. That’s an awful lot of pressure to stand up to, and this was long before her latest controversy.
The news on Rihanna always centers on her relationship with Chris Brown. Just for the record, the latest on that scandal is that Rihanna is done with Chris and lawyers have successfully filed for a restraining order for a limited period of time. That said; just consider some of the positive things Rihanna has done, especially as regards charity work. She created the Believe Foundation in 2006 to help terminally ill children. She continually performs a number of concerts for charity, and regularly participates in other fundraisers. Some of her most famous charitable efforts include Fashion against AIDS, the anti-cancer campaign Just Stand Up!, the Recording Industry Association of America's Presidential Inauguration Charity Ball, and a special photography session sponsored by the United Nations Children's Fund.
These are the heartfelt stories that should be making the news. This is what Rihanna’s legacy should be and there are no doubt millions of Rihanna fans that are standing behind her even in difficult times. As for as romance goes, some rumors are flying about the Barbados singer and Toronto rapper Drake, though Drake claims that the two singers are just friends. Who can blame Drake for playing it safe in the midst of all this controversy? Only thing is, Drake, that it’s hard to believe any guy could stay just friends with a woman this lovely!
